Steve Koch

Steve is a Rochester, NY based drummer. He was born on May 15, 1990 and was raised in the rural town of Scottsville (a small village just outside of Rochester) for a bulk of his life. Although his father, a former drummer, tried to get him to play drums from a very young age; he wouldn’t begin to seriously play the drum kit until age 14. He spent his high school years playing small shows with local bands. In the fall of 2008, he began attending the Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua NY to study Music and Music Recording. While attending school there he met his future band mates of Storm the Bay. He joined Storm the Bay in July of 2009, and in less than a year the band has built a great following, played countless shows around the Northeast, and released their debut E.P. By All Means.

Steve teamed up with Soultone Cymbals in the spring of 2010.

“I tried cymbals from all the big name companies and a few smaller companies as well. I was always able to find cymbals I liked enough to could get the job done, but I was never completely satisfied. Storm the Bay’s style is unique; at times we can be very heavy, but in an instant we can turn around and be very melodic, progressive, and even poppy at times. I wanted cymbals that were aggressive enough to cut through the guitars chugging away in drop C, but at the same time wanted the cymbals to sound very musical and have great tonal qualities. That is exactly what I have finally acquired with Soultone’s Extreme Series. These are the most versatile cymbals I’ve ever played.”
