Black Tar Superstar

My name is Steve “Reaper” Komlody and I’ve been playing drums since I was 8 years old when I heard “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath for the first time. 36 years later here I am at the later part of my career playing for touring/national Doom Metal act Black Tar Superstar signed to Artillery Music Group. We've been featured on podcasts internationally, More Fuzz(UK), The Autopsy Report, Meathook Metal show on Pure Rock Radio, The Whizbanger Show, and many other radio stations. We've had many good reviews of our first EP "Old Gods, Awaken" which is now available on all platforms. I’m also the head band director of the SAAS steel drum band at Summit Academy Akron high school in Akron, Ohio and 20th year as a music educator. I played in the concert band, marching band, and jazz band in high school. I got my Music Ed/Percussion Performance degree from Kent State University in 1999. My training involved multi-world percussion, jazz-fusion playing and concert percussion and additional training at Berklee School of Music. My drum set background is in Jazz, blues, reggae, Latin salsa, Afro-Cuban, rock and metal. My professional career I’ve performed with Death Metal acts, hardcore, black metal, industrial and doom metal bands. I have recorded 9 CDs, one of which is regularly downloaded on iTunes. As a Music education teacher I’ve worked in the inner city schools including Cleveland, Akron, and Canton city school districts since 1999. I’ve directed various beginner concert bands, high school band and jazz ensembles, middle school and high school choir, and Steel drum ensembles. I taught private instruction for 15 years and performed 2 clinics for Peace Percussion in 2007. I’m so honored to be a part of the SoulTone family and to play such high quality precision cymbals with amazing sound quality and warmth. Thank you so much SoulTone Cymbals!

The sound is incredible and very versatile. There is impeccable warmth without too much wash and can cut through any mix both live and recording.
The thing that i love most about Soultone cymbals is the craftsmanship, durability that can take a beating and still sounds like new. Their tone never diminishes whether you are playing extreme metal or hardcore. You can't have that kind of quality with other brands. Each line is versatile in that no matter what style of music you play it's tailor made to build the sound you want. Live and in the studio the Extreme series have a brilliance and warmth of sound that cuts through all of the different layers and really stands out. This is why I recommend Soultone Cymbals to all drummers in and out of the metal community.
As a professional drummer, Soultone Cymbals have elevated my playing by creating a sound that fits everything I look for in cymbals. The Artist Relations team has been incredibly professional and any questions I had or getting my cymbals to me, they were always right on top of it!
