Skip Walker

Skip Walker is a drummer, songwriter, producer and music educator who prides himself on embracing all musical genres. Starting out as a musical child prodigy in his home state of North Carolina, Skip journeyed to New York City at the age of Seventeen and began cutting his teeth in funk music after being recruited to hold down the drum chair for the legendary funk group “The Fatback Band.”

After touring Europe extensively with “Fatback” Skip moved on to study music at the prestigious Berklee College of Music where he won the Leonard Feather Scholarship Award. While at Berklee, Skip counted among his peers some of the finest names in jazz/R&B including Lalah Hathaway, Saxophonist Javon Jackson, drummer Antonio Graci, and bassist Dave Dyson to name a few.

Skip has also performed and recorded with Grammy Award winning vocalist Israel Houghton, flautist Althea Rene, pianist Oajee Allan Gumbs, and saxophonist Bubba Brooks. He has released his first CD as a band leader entitled “Funky Café” with his band “Macrorhythm” which features some of the best jazz/funk musicians in the country. Skip is also a professor at Methodist University in North Carolina where he teaches percussion, jazz history, and religion. He is proud endorser of soultone cymbals and currently plays a combination of the “extreme” and “custom” series which allow him maximum flexibility to thrive in a variety of musical situations. After years searching for the “perfect” combination of cymbals, Skip proclaims that “with Soultone cymbals, the search is over!”
