Born in rural Northeast Texas, Ryan Scott Brown grew up being the first musician in his family. However, Ryan’s father did introduce him to greats like Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones and Dire Straits at a very young age, which was a definitive catalyst in sparking an emphatic interest in music. From there, Ryan soon was absorbing the undeniable influence of Led Zeppelin, Yes, Rush and the Police. Upon reaching his early teens, Ryan was drawn more into the groove aspect of drumming after hearing iconic recordings of James Brown, the Ohio Players, the Meters, Al Green, Parliament Funkadelic and Tower of Power, which was the gateway that led to Ryan putting an enthusiastic ear the Jazz/latin/fusion genres.

After 2 years of Junior College, Ryan enrolled into the Jazz Studies major at University of North Texas, which provided him the fortunate opportunity to study with great drummers such as Ed Soph, Rick Latham, Henry Okstel, Dave Weckl, Steve Smith, Ignacio Berroa, Dan Robbins and Jim Chapin. UNT also provided an incredible experience in playing many styles, many types of ensembles and groups, along with playing intricate music with a plethora of incredible musicians. Currently, Ryan works mainly in Dallas, TX as freelance musician but also plays regularly with Chant, Quintin Hope, Chaz-Marie, Limelight & EC All-Stars (both under Emerald City Management) and with the MacArthur Blvd. Baptist Church Praise and Worship Team. The excitement of the Soultone Cymbals brand and quality has been a profound milestone for Ryan Brown as he believes they are irrefutably unique and a much needed deviation from the norm.
