Orrin Smith, a Native of Stella NC has been playing drums since he was 7. His passion for the craft started in church as a kid playing for the church band at God’s City of Refuge in Newport NC. The drive for his craft continued to flourish during his high school years at West Carteret Hight School as a member of their national award-winning marching band. During his time serving in the U.S Navy, he was a part of the Navy’s Jazz band and orchestra. After his military service, Orrin moved to the Washington DC area and became the drummer for Redeeming Life Ministries International, under the ministry of Bishop Daniel B. Salley. It was there where his professional career began opening up opportunities to immerse himself into the talented music scene of the DMV area.
Orrin has had the privilege of performing with the likes of the incredible Twinkie Clarke of the Clarke Sisters, national recording artists Lindsay Slayton, Selina Edwards, Warren Jones of Gideon Band and Tia Dae. Orrin is an accomplished session drummer recording for Loyal To One (CCM band) on two of their releases as well as numerous artist. Orrin is a seasoned sound and recording engineer and is currently busy creating and producing music for his R&B soul band “Sub-Urban Sol”. For the past 5 years Orrin has been the drummer for New Hope Church of God in Waldorf MD under the ministry of Bishop Aaron Jones. Orrin’s approach to drumming has been influenced by great drummers such as Dave Weckl, Lars Ulrich, Gerald Heywood, Aaron Spears, Rex Hardy Jr and Teddy Campbell. Whether it’s live gigs or studio sessions, Orrin continues to push the limits of his skills and ability to touch his listening audience with his distinct and soulful sound.
