Nikk Taylor

Nikk Taylor has been playing since God handed him a pair of drum sticks! After being influenced at an early age by Buddy Rich, Art Blakey and Max Roach, Billy Cobham and Omar Hakim, his brother, professional bassist Skip Taylor, gave him his “chops” by teaching him to always stay in the “pocket”! He began his professional drum career by joining a popular rock band called “Eye to Eye”, which had several Television appearances. After several years he joined a gospel group that toured up and down the East Coast. He then went on to perform with such greats as Jerry “the ice man” Butler and several years later Nikk joined renown pianist Richard Payne in his jazz trio which began to mold him into a truly well rounded drummer. Nikk has performed at such venues as Blues Alley, The Kennedy Center, Howard Theatre, Lincoln Theatre and many more!

Nikk currently is the founder, manager and drummer for Jazzy Blu. Jazzy Blu is unique because it encompasses every genre that has made Nikk the drummer he is today. After releasing their debut CD entitled “Jazzy Blu”, Nikk and Jazzy Blu have opened for national artist such as Kindred the Family Soul, Jon B, Boyz to Men, Brian McKnight, The Whispers, The Ojays, Raheem DeVaughn, Mary J. Blige, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, SOS Band, Ohio Players, Chaka Khan, Kool & the Gang and others! Nikk Taylor and Jazzy Blu performed at the world renowned Kennedy Center for the internationally acclaimed Broadway musical, The Color Purple. Nikk was also privileged to perform for both historic inaugurations of President Barack Obama. As Nikk and his band Jazzy Blu continue to travel the country with their unique sound, they will continue to carve out their own unique space in the music world! Stay Blu!
