Matias Sala

Matías Hernán Sala was born on April 18th 1990 in Quilmes City, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

He started playing the drums at the age of 13, while studying with the teacher Marcelo Frezia (EMPA).

At the age of 15 he formed his first music projects, appearing in gigs in local bars and clubs with a Punk band called Bajo Control.

Being a big admirer of drummers such as: Ingo Switzemberg, Jorg Michael, Aquiles Priester and Mike Portnoy, Matías started studying with Walter Ariel Baum (Writer of the books “Doble Bombo: Una forma de expresión” and “Mensajes En Clave”) to improve his bass drum technique.

In 2007 he is called by the band Insight, with which he would later record his first EP, also acting as producer and recording technician. During that period of time he was hired by the band Arthois as sessionist to cover a very important show in the Obras stadium, in which the band would support Mago de Oz. Following that gig, Matias became a permanent member of the band taking part in different shows of great importance, together with the most important Argentinian Heavy Metal bands, including: Logos, Horcas, Tren Loco, Lethal, and Imperio.

After the launching of “Ageless” Insight´s EP in 2009, many international gigs came up, including Stratovarius and Angra.

As a result of all the hard work, in October 2009, Matias signs contract with the company Soultone cymbals (used by brilliant artists such as Nick Menza and Jonathan Moffett) becoming an official artist of the previously mentioned brand.

At the moment Matias is recording Arthois´second album while presenting Insight´s EP.

He is also studying in the Conservatorio Superior de música “Manuel De Falla” and in the Instituto “T.A.M.A.B.A.” to become a recording and sound production technician.
