Jose Julian Castro Dussán was born in Popayan (Cauca - Colombia) on March 25, 1982, then installed in Pitalito (Huila) where he lived until age 7, and then heads to Bogota where he now lives.

His contact with music started at 12 or 13 years when taking some guitar lessons, but from that moment he knew that this was not the instrument that allowed him to express and communicate the way he wanted and became interested in the drum set, until the year 1997 at the age of 15 years he could have their first contact with a drum set, started as a hobby, but over the years the drums was becoming increasingly important in his life and began to spend more time, In this moment he decides to start studying music and drums.

He began studying Music and Drums in 2003 at the Academy of Arts Guerrero of Bogotá in the programs offered by this institution, during this process his drum teacher was Rafael Leal, after a year he retires and continues to take private lessons with master Rafael Leal, until in 2005 he entered the University of Colombia INCCA in the professional music program led by the teacher Olga Shiskina. During this process could have the teachings of Urian Sarmiento, German Sandoval and Juan Camilo Anzola on drums and Alexander Martinez in Percussion and other areas of music, he had teachers as Juan Sebastian Monsalve, Juan Benavides, Samir Aldana, Damian Ponce, among many others, who provided very important elements of what is now the way we understand and interpret his music.

As a performer has participated in many festivals that exist nationally like Festival Rock Nativo in Garzón (Huila), III festival cultural del Colegio Montessori in Pitalito (Huila), Festival de Blues y Jazz del teatro La libélula Dorada, VI Festival de Jazz Domingo “Nuevas Tendencias”, II Festival Rock Agrario in Garzón (Huila), V Festival de Orquestas Universitarias complete in the Fundación Universitaria Los Libertadores, I Festival de Músicos Unincca and he has played in major concert halls such as Sala Teresa Cuervo del Museo Nacional, Sala Oriol Rangel del Planetario Distrital, Sala Otto de Greiff de la Filarmónica de Colombia, Teatro Colón, Auditorio Fabio Lozano, Teatro Arlequín, La Media Torta, Fundación Gilberto Alzate Avendaño, among many others.

He is currently drummer in bands Cactopus and Poira and works at the school for artistic development Ars Lúdere as a drum teacher and director of institutional ensembles and in academy The Escala as a drum teacher.

Jose Julián Castro Dussán nace en Popayán (Cauca – Colombia) el 25 de marzo de 1982, luego se instala en Pitalito (Huila) donde vive hasta los 7 años; para luego llegar a Bogotá donde vive actualmente.

Su contacto con la música inicia a los 12 o 13 años cuando toma algunas clases de guitarra, pero desde ese momento supo que ese no era el instrumento que le permitía expresarse y comunicarse como él quería y comienza a interesarse por la batería, hasta que en el año de 1997 a la edad de 15 años pudo tener su primer contacto con una batería; en ese momento todo inicio como un hobby, pero con el paso de los años la batería se fue convirtiendo en algo cada vez más importante en su vida y comenzó a ocupar más tiempo de su vida; a tal punto que decide comenzar a estudiar música y batería. Inicia sus estudios de Música y Batería en el año 2003 en la Academia de Artes Guerrero de Bogotá; en los programas de cursos libres propuestos por esta institución, durante este proceso su maestro de batería fue el maestro Rafael Leal, luego de un año de estar en la Academia se retira y sigue tomando clases particulares con el maestro Rafael Leal; hasta que en el 2005 ingresa a la Universidad Incca de Colombia al programa profesional de música dirigido por la maestra Olga Shiskina, durante este proceso pudo contar con las enseñanzas de los maestros Urián Sarmiento, Germán Sandoval y Juan Camilo Anzola en la Batería y Alexander Martínez en la Percusión y en las demás áreas de la música tuvo a maestros como Juan Sebastián Monsalve, Juan Benavides, Samir Aldana, Damian Ponce, entre muchos otros, que aportaron elementos muy importantes para lo que es hoy la forma de entender e interpretar su música.

Como intérprete ha participado en muchos de los festivales que existen a nivel nacional como el Festival Rock Nativo realizado en Garzón (Huila), III festival cultural del Colegio Montessori realizado en Pitalito (Huila), Festival de Blues y Jazz del teatro La Libélula Dorada, VI Festival de Jazz Domingo “Nuevas Tendencias”, II Festival Rock Agrario realizado en Garzón (Huila), V Festival de Orquestas Universitarias realizado en la Fundación Universitaria Los Libertadores, I Festival de Músicos Unincca y ha podido tocar en las salas de conciertos más importantes de Bogotá como la sala Teresa Cuervo del Museo Nacional, la sala Oriol Rangel del Planetario Distrital, La sala Otto de Greiff de la Filarmónica de Colombia, el Teatro Colón, el Auditorio Fabio Lozano, el Teatro Arlequín, La Media Torta, la Fundación Gilberto Alzate Avendaño, entre muchos otros.

Actualmente es baterista en Cactopus y Poira y trabaja en la escuela para el desarrollo artístico Ars Lúdere como maestro de batería y director de ensambles institucionales y en la academia La Escala como maestro de batería.
