Joel Wise

Based in central North Carolina, Joel Wise has been playing drums and percussion since age 11. He started out leading worship at his father’s church with the worship band, Floodgate. Eventually, the original drummer of Floodgate switched to playing guitar and Joel became the new drummer. The band traveled all over North Carolina and parts of South Carolina leading worship at youth events. He continued with Floodgate until their disbandment in 2013.
In 2008, Joel began his college career at Methodist University, perfecting his skill as a marching snare player, a front ensemble percussionist, and jazz drummer with the school's marching band and jazz band. He also became a part of Common Ground, Methodist University’s worship band. It was with Common Ground that he had the opportunity to play not only for the school, but at churches all over the state of North Carolina as well as on a mini worship tour to Ohio and New York. Common Ground also opened for Building 429, Leeland, Charlie Hall, Seventh Day Slumber, and the Marshall Tucker Band. In 2012, Common Ground disbanded and Joel moved to Edenton, NC where he led worship at Edenton United Methodist Church for two years.
Joel returned to Fayetteville North Carolina in 2016 and became employed at Rockfish Camp and Retreat center. In that summer of 2016, his best friend and former guitarist from Common Ground, J.D. Williamson, invited him to perform at the Carolina Pines festival with his band Driskill, an Indie Folk band which consisted of J.D. Williamson and Ethan Driskill.
The three became inseparable and have performed in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Joel performed on the USS North Carolina for Lighthouse Beer Festival’s vendor night in 2017 and returned to headline the Lighthouse Beer Festival in Wilmington, North Carolina in 2019. The band recently performed at the Carolina Country Music Awards in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where they were nominated for best vocal group of the year. Noteworthy performances from Driskill include stages shared with Rayland Baxter, Christopher Paul Stelling, Driftwood, and Tyler Ramsey from Band of Horses. They have also been featured on many NC local news networks including Country Fried Rock, 98.3 the Penguin, and Noisetrade.
The band is currently in the process of recording a third album while performing live shows from their studio.
