Jake Deal

Capital Chill

Jake Deal is a musician hailing from Silver Spring, Maryland with over 20 years of drumming experience. After classical training in concert percussion, he learned drumset and began playing in a variety of bands and genres. Jake studied under legendary DC/Baltimore drummer Scott Peaker, who he credits for teaching him how to be a musician - not just a drummer.

Working with Peaker, Jake received training in many different styles of music including jazz, jazz fusion, funk, Afro-Cuban and Rock & Roll. Beginning in 2006, the drummer continued to play and study music at Washington College. Under the guidance of ethnomusicologist and Afro-Cuban music expert Ken Schweitzer, he became able to better incorporate traditional Afro-Cuban music into his musical endeavors, playing regularly with The Took, a rock group that booked major venues in Baltimore and the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

By the time he graduated college, Jake was known as the “Music Man,” earning the Music Award on his campus. After graduating college, Jake attended graduate school at American University in Washington, DC and quickly became involved with DC music. Currently, Jake is the lead drummer of both Washington, DC-based rock group Mother's Oven and Washington, DC-based cover band Capital Chill. Priding himself on his ability to play any genre, he continues to develop his style and is confident that he will never settle to be classified by one style of music. Jake is endorsed by Soultone Cymbals. He also maintains a YouTube channel to showcase his music.
