Bobby Van Stone

Bobby Van Stone, born and raised in Deerfield Beach, Florida, is a lover of not only drums, but music as a whole. His affinity for rock music started at an early age thanks to his parents Ron & Joan’s radio preferences, and he loved purchasing new CDs to listen to. When he got his first drum set at age 13, he started taking lessons with guru John Grillo of Boca Raton, and by 18, he was playing gigs with cover bands around the local South Florida music scene.

Bobby attended Florida Atlantic University, where he graduated with a bachelor in business administration, but his focus remained on drums. During his time in school his music taste expanded greatly, and there’s not much he’d turn down giving a good listen. He became a huge fan of metal and progressive music, citing influence from bands such as Tool, Between the Buried and Me, August Burns Red, and Avenged Sevenfold, but that’s not to say he doesn’t enjoy a good, soft melody from time to time. In recent years his drumming influences include Benny Greb, Nate Smith, Dave Weckl, Todd Sucherman, Danny Carey, and Blake Richardson.

Bobby’s playing style is heavy and hard hitting, with a soulful and energetic touch that showcases his personality as he plays with his heavy roots-rock band, Shaw Davis & the Black Ties, reigning from Pompano Beach, Florida. He is currently with this band, started in June of 2016, and after building a solid following in the local Blues-Rock scene they are touring around the country and soon in Europe. Shaw Davis & the Black Ties has two albums available on all streaming and digital platforms.
