Daneil Hinds

Daneil T. Hinds, or “Nelson” as some know him, has been an avid drummer since he was a toddler. Since then, music has been a huge part of his life. At the age of three, Daneil began playing on pots and baking pans. Upon entering elementary school, Daneil’s music teacher spotted the potential talent and began to challenge him musically. From then, as a second grader, he was asked to play drums for the schools’ gospel choir, making him the youngest drummer in the school.

As a child, Daneil began to study the styles of professional drummer, Gerald Heyward, who subsequently gave Daneil his first practice set. Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers and Vinnie Colaiuta are among the other drummers Daneil modeled his style after. Daneil’s immediate family was born and raised in the island of Trinidad, which influenced his diverse musical styling. At ten years old Daneil started playing drums at his grandfather’s church in Brooklyn, NY.

At the age of twelve, Daneil was accepted to an arts school in the music department where he began the seventh grade and joined the R.E.L.C. Fighting Falcons Marching Band. During that time, he began to establish himself as the captain of the snare line. As he progressed, Daneil was introduced to Drum Corps and was captivated by the talent and ability of the musicians; this encounter led him to join the Cadets of Brooklyn who were part of The Cadets of Bergen County.

At thirteen, while attending junior high school, Daneil was accepted into the Juilliard School of Music in the Music Advancement Program on a two year full scholarship, which gave Daneil the opportunity to play in an ensemble at Lincoln Center on multiple occasions. During that time, he was still traveling with the Drum Corps all around the Northeast.

Daneil moved to Jacksonville, FL in 2002 to live with his father. While in Florida, he began attending City Bible Church and quickly became the primary drummer for the church. He eventually also became the drummer for a Christian rock band called The Tribe of Judah. Later on, Daneil began playing guitar for the band. In that time, the team wrote many great songs and played all over Northeast FL. A couple of years later the band separated. In 2004, Daneil met his wife who recalls seeing him for the first time on a drum set and immediately referred to him as “the drummer boy”. In June 2008, Daneil and his wife tied the knot.

During that time, Daneil and his best friend, Tyrelle Mustafa, were still writing and making music. From that came the band, Judah, which started in February 2010? Currently, Daneil is the Drummer and vocalist for Judah. In January 2011 Judah released their debut album, “Resound”. Daneil has had a busy music schedule over the years playing at “YEX 2010” with Judah alongside seasoned Christian artists such as Eddie James and Rick Pino. So far this year, Judah has a tour schedule that is filling up quickly, including performing at Youthquake Live 2011 Season as well as at YEX 2011 alongside Christian recording artist, Jason Upton. Judah will also be playing at the Global Day of Prayer pre-event, which will be held in Jacksonville, FL as the host city this year with over 10,000 in attendance and broadcasted live around the globe. More recently, Judah has been performing once a month at IHOP Jax.

Aside from drumming, Daneil owns and operates a Hot sauce company called Keep It Saucy and is working on obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Theology at Life Christian University.
