The Water Proxy

Being a musician takes endless hours of practice, money, time, dedication and the ability to accept "No," or " You can't make it anywhere," comments on a day to day basis. Like any other profession it takes the courage to fight your way up musics corporate ladder and sometimes the need to relocate to grow. Paying dues to playing empty rooms and traveling endless miles for penny's is but the beauty of learning the ways of being a musician. I have battled through so much drama that comes with being in a band or in many cases, a family, I wouldn't give up a minute of it for the world. Being on stage and creating more than just a sound but a musical feeling that can only be heard in your soul, sharing that with people who feed off your vibes .. its a high no drug could replace.

I knew since I was a kid I wanted to play the drums. After trying out for drums in elementary school the Music teacher had the nerve to tell an 8 year old they had no rhythm and that I couldn't play drums. Its amazing how impressionable words can be on a kid. I did not drum after that until I was 18. Growing up poor and in a crazy lifestyle necessity's take first seat to hobbies. Once I was able to afford my first drum set I was 18 and it was in October of 1998. Been going strong since.

My first drum set was a 5 Piece Sunlight kit with Sabian cymbals which i pretty much chewed up right away. My best friend Phil is pretty much the inspiration and encouragement that kept me going in the beginning. He taught me guitar and we played together often. I joined his metal band DeD LeVeL in 2001, only 3 years after learning how to drum. I'm actually glad I got coerced into being in a band so fast. I progressed alot faster when I began playing with other musicians. Our first show was November of 2001. We played with sum great touring and local bands and sum great National bands as well. DOPE, Primer 55, Skinlab, Society 1, 5 Foot Thick, Luxt, etc are sum of the bands we shared the stage with. We also recorded a 4 song Demo which gave me sum great insight into the world of recording. Experience in booking shows, promoting events in and out of state, the world of press packs and the ways of playing on stage and recording are what I learned in DeD LeVeL.

Bands fall apart for many reasons but from the remains, fate devises another path. KaNcErUs was born on November 21st 2006. I can't even recall the amount of shows we played or the numerous bands we shared the stage with. I can defiently say it was sum of the best times of my life. We played with sum greats like Marc Rizzo from Soulfly, Primer 55, Today is the Day, as well as playing on sum great tours like Project Independent, Total Resistance Tour, and Jaegermeister Tour 2007. Playing venues in Seattle and Spokane we defiently were starting to make a name for ourselves. We also recorded a full length cd entitled " Vaccine Nation, " a very proud piece of KaNcErUs history. In 2010, KaNcErUs parted ways but still remain to be great friends.

In 2011 I moved my way down to the dirty south for a year to play music with various bands and musicians. Approximately, 30 mins away from Little Rock. Originally moving down there to join the band McCuin. After only 3 months and 4 shows later, drama devoured pieces of the members. Outside drama, inside drama. Somethings you can never expect but this path I will not regret. I played with numerous musicians and built an amazing amount of connections that still follow me to this day. Returning back to Billings a year later I kept my path going.
In January of 2013 I built a metal band with my best friend Phil called Ripple Effect. Opening for bands like Primer 55 we went strong until November of 2014 but abrasive personalities can test even the best of friendships. So to salvage our friendship we both moved on to different bands. Today, my band The Water Proxy has been going strong since June of 2015!! We consider ourselves Dirt Rock, a conglomeration of rock / punk / metal / jazz / ambient. An amazing amount of drive and talent in this band has me working harder than ever to get us on out on the road. The music in my world never stops.
