Christopher James

Christopher James

Christopher James was born and raised in Pensacola, Florida. Since the age of two, he was fascinated with drumming. He started young by pulling out his grandmother’s pots and pans and setting up his own little kit. As he grew, his passion for drums and music also grew. He started drumming for the youth choir in his home church. When he turned 8, he became the lead drummer of the church, drumming for all of the choirs, adult choir included. As the years went by, he continued to enhance the talent that God had gave him. In grade 6th, he began to learn how to read music with starting in his middle school beginner band. By his 8th grade year, he arose to a high placing chair position in the top band, as well as being the lead drummer in the jazz band. While in high school, he was a member on the internationally acclaimed Tate High School “Showband of the South”. For 4 years in high school, he kept adding to his repertoire, not of becoming just a drummer, but a percussionist. He became the lead drummer in the top jazz band for 3 years, and of two of those years, the jazz band was selected to perform for the national high school “Swing Central” competition in Savannah, Georgia, where Chris met the likes of well renown jazz musicians such as Jason Marsalis, Wycliffe Gordon, and Slide Hampton. While in high school, he was voted “best rookie” his first year of jazz band, as well as “most outstanding senior” his final year. Chris is currently enrolled at the University of Mobile, a Christian school located in Mobile, Alabama. He is a member of RamCorps, a DCI based indoor brass and percussion ensemble, where he himself plays a 5-part bass drum line part. He is also in the jazz band, as well is the symphonic band. During his time at the university, Chris has been on two missionary trips. The first being with RamCorps on a trip to Jamaica, and the second to Brazil as a member of the Nashville based “Metro Big Band”, led by Mr. Camp Kirkland. Chris is a managerial entrepreneurship major, and wishes to own his own big and tall clothing store in the near future. He also wishes to take his talents on the road, becoming a professional traveling musician, playing any genre from funk, jazz, gospel, rock, pop, Christian, and anything else he can get his hands on. There is not a day where Chris doesn’t have a pair of drumsticks in his hands, and every day, he strives to be better than the day before, and hopes to make a positive impact on the world through his music.
