Alvaro José Barboza

Born in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia. He’s a drummer and musician with more than twenty years at the Colombian scene. He has played in different projects showing a strong and balanced sound and took part at important rock, pop, jazz and fusion records.
Owning a particular style and strength that makes him special when playing the drums, Barboza has coproduced works for bands and audiovisual collectives and also, collaborated in soundtracks for movies and television. Along his career, He has established an unique manner that has earned him numerous awards and participations in major music festivals in Colombia and Latin America. Alvaro took part of the Latin Grammy winner album Pombo Musical, a production directed by Carlos Vives and Ivan Benavides playing the single La Pastorcita sang by the actress and singer Verónica Orozco.
Actually, he’s been coproducing a new record with Leon Bruno, a highly noticed rock band on the Colombian coast, with the one he has achieved a sound and a set full of color and grace accompanied by a necessary technique which is for him the reference when it comes to the new contemporary sound of Colombia in the world of drums and percussion.
Alvaro has worked with a list of leading artists, bands, singers, producers and pianists including Leon Bruno, VCRolab, 69 Nombres, Estela, Veronica Orozco, Mirage, Puff o que?, Daniel Roa, Viola Camacho, Daniel Moncada, Leonardo Donado, Dan Godhino, Ivan Benavides, Bernardo Ossa, Luis Fernando Arevalo, Ernesto Santos, Emje Roses, Universos, Jorge Olguìn ( Pingwy ).
His entire trajectory has aimed to the encounter with the sound that comes from his land, proposing a synthesis of history and new conceptualized ideas in a richness of sound that can be seen in his songs.
Alvaro wants to share his Caribbean world through the genuine and forceful sound of the drums which is present in the new production by Leon Bruno that will be exposed soon in several distribution platforms around the world.
Colombia owns a huge amount of grace and talent that reflects the free spirit of its musicians. Alvaro resumes creativity on his way of to offer a technique and the concepts he has gained, being an important element for the sound structure that provides the global context of percussion.

Alvaro plays with the cymbals signing Soultone USA. He uses the Extreme series which allows him to create an atmosphere and a great ability to project the force and musicality that symbolizes him. He finishes the drum sound with his recordings, staging and a sensible approach starting from the simple to the complex way of dealing life as a professional drummer compromised to create sounds.
