Ross Thomas

My name is Ross Thomas from South Wales, United Kingdom. I was born 25/06/95 and currently the Drummer of a Band called “Helldown”; I have been playing drums since I was 6. The main reason I got into drums was because I saw Lar Ulrich’s kit from an old recording my father had on VHS and I fell in love.

Since being young, I’ve only had two different drum kits, starting on a CB beginner kit to a TAMA Hyperdrive Drumset at the age of 16 for which I bought from savings of my first job in Engineering. When I first learnt to play, I had drum lessons for a number of years but the repetition became insanely tedious; I took it upon myself to develop my playing by ear using vinyl records and videos of bands that my parents had in their collection.

I am a Thrash/Groove drummer with hints of Glam Metal by look. My main influences are: Dave Lombardo, Vinnie Paul, Nicko Mcbrain, Gene Hoglan, Stet Howland, Ingo Schwichtenberg, Charlie Benante and Mikkey Dee. I have recently started teaching drums to beginners and hope to carry on teaching as not only is it teaching others, it’s also improving my own playing and understanding. I am also currently Endorsed by Agner Drumsticks & Cymskin Protection.

We give you relentless power and aggression with our Thrash/Groove sound. In some of our reviews we have been described as “Slayer meets Pantera” and more recently “The New Wave of British Trash Metal”.

There are a huge number of influences that come into this band, to name a few we have - Motorhead, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Pantera, Guns N Roses, Motley Crue, Slayer, Thin Lizzy, Venom, WASP, Exodus, Manowar, Machine Head, Helloween and many more.

We have been privileged to share the stage with bands such as Phil Campbell, Toxic Holocaust, Exhumed, Xerath, Malignancy, Skreamer and more to come.

Originally formed by guitarist and songwriter Matthew Evans. Then not long afterwards his brother Ben Evans joined the band as bassist and singer. After a long search and putting up many ads Helldown finally found a drummer by the name of Ross Thomas. And after another long search for a lead guitarist, Chris Driscoll joins the band as the fourth and final member.

Within our live sets we set out to please the crowd by not only playing our own original songs, but also by playing a range of covers by our influences, for example we usually add a Slayer or Metallica song into the set, like Creeping Death or Raining Blood & Black Magic.
