Rick Lowell
Born in 1993 on the same day as the murder of Euronymous, Rick Lowell was a relatively late bloomer when it comes to metal drumming and music in general. After receiving his first kit at 15, he joined his first band, the now-defunct Pandora’s Toybox, less than three years later at 17. With them he recorded drums for 6 of the 17 songs on their second album, Bleakshow, tracking them the same week that he graduated high school. The album received universal acclaim, and Lowell’s drumming was praised for its creativity. Half a year later, Lowell joined Sorrowseed, a melodic extreme metal band based out of Boston, Massachusetts, and with them Lowell has opened for Swedish black metal icons Watain and toured the eastern United States several times over. He cites his major influences as including Derek Roddy, Gene Hoglan, Dave Lombardo, Mike Portnoy, Lars Ulrich, and Martin Lopez. As of this writing, Sorrowseed will be releasing a brand new studio album, Nemesis Engine, on Halloween in 2013. Lowell will also be featured drumming on new material from Blacksoul Seraphim, an atmospheric doom metal band from Northampton, Massachusetts.
