Nathan Martin

Nathan A. Martin was born January 13, 1981 to Rev. Edward and Asie Martin in Joliet, IL. The 3rd of five boys, Nathan was born into a rich spiritual heritage and his parents were both God-fearing individuals whose endeavor was to always maintain a Christ-centered home. Shortly after Nathan’s birth, his father became the pastor of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Joliet. Music was a mainstay in the Martin household as his two older brothers, Anthony and Rodney were already skilled drummers in their own right. Nate developed a love for the drums at an early age and by the age of six, he was assisting his older brother in that area of ministry at their local church. Without having taken one lesson, the Lord seemingly gifted Nathan to play the drums and in the fourth grade, Nathan entered the Cadet Band at Laraway Elementary School in Joliet. After spending a couple years in the band there, Nathan seemingly advanced at a pace his peers could not keep up with. By the age of 9, Nathan was the lead drummer for the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church Christian Youth Choir.

Everywhere Nathan went, people were marveled at how someone so young could have such a mastery of this craft. Nathan would spend hours upon hours practicing and studying with musical heavy hitters in the industry. By the age of 12, Nathan was the main drummer for all the music ministries at St. Paul. Nathan’s talent brought him in front of great people, but he remained humble at all times, remembering that God was still the giver of his gift. Never venturing from the church, Nathan continued to play the drums with skill, precision, and the anointing. When his older brother founded a local community choir in 1996, Nathan was the natural choice for the choir’s drummer. Nathan begin to travel with his brother across the Chicagoland are and eventually, the country, ministering the gospel of Jesus Christ through music. In 1999, Nathan was promoted to Musical Director of that group, giving oversight and direction to the other musicians.

Nathan continues to serve at his local church, but is very well known for his ability and humility. He always seeks to perfect his craft by studying under those more seasoned than himself. Nathan still assists his father in ministry to this day, but has also been privileged to share the stage with such gospel greats as Kim Burrell and Mark Hubbard , just to name a few. After over 20 years of playing the drums, his love for the Lord and what he does is still evident. Nathan currently resides in Minooka, IL with his lovely wife Tashia and their two sons, Elijah and Ethan.
