Michael “MJ” Key Jr.

Michael “MJ” Key Jr.

It is agreed upon that the musical gift of Michael “MJ” Key Jr. was anointed from his mother’s womb. With Regina Key (mom) being a member and singer of the world renowned (170 Adelphi Street) Institutional COGIC, it was inevitable that Michael would also follow that same musical path.

He received his first drum set at the age of 4 and has been ministering musically ever since. Being inspired and mentored by such phenomenal musicians as Professor Butch Heyward, Melvin Crispbell, Michael Gayle and Eddie Heyward, Michael was more than well equipped to play along with other great musicians.

While at Institutional COGIC, at age 12 Michael “debut” with the Children’s Choir as a percussionist under Alex Williams. By age 15, he accompanied Vincent Bohanon on musical sets. It was here that he travelled with the CW youth Ensemble. Once 16, he was blessed to go abroad to study music. At the same time, he also played drums with marching bands.

Upon returning home at age 18, Michael united with Divine Destiny Christian Center under Bishop James Jones Sr. where his sound is becoming more enriched through the word of God.

In addition, Michael plays for many churches and groups throughout the tri-state areas. When he wants to “relax”, he’ll go shedding with his best friends Charles Sams, Darnell Evans and JerVaughn (Jay) Bratton. Although he is presently mastering the keyboards and organ, in 2012 he plans to continue and complete his degree in Music Theory.

But most of all, Michael is a proud and successful endorser of SOULTONE!!!
