Justin Simmons

Bunch of Believerz

Justin started being interested in drums at the early age of 1 when his parents purchased him his first play set. After a year of beating that to death, along with pots, pans, lampshades, etc., they finally bought him his first official set at the age of 2. His first set was a white Rogers kit in which he still has and plans to keep around for memories. History wrote itself from there. Over his younger years, he began playing the drums for his dad, Apostle Larry Simmons, at his church and traveled around whenever he could so he could watch other drummers. Throughout those years, he was able to soak up many playing styles that went along with his gospel roots and began to get small gigs at local schools and winning local talent shows. As he became older, he would watch youtube videos and go to various clinics starred by his favorite drummers. Some of those drummers include Thomas Pridgen, Tony Royster, “Spanky” McCurdy, Aaron Spears, Dennis Chambers, and much more. Watching all these drummers in action created who Justin is today. Today he is now Co-Music Director at his dad’s church along with his brother Jordan Simmons (organ/keyboard). He is also Music/Band Director over W.O.R.D. at the University of Illinois and the Music/Band Director over Cotton Club at the University of Illinois. He is currently attending Columbia College of Chicago for music producing/design and is currently starting a new band with his brother Jordan and a couple of fellow musicians (still work in progress). He still gigs around the Illinois region along with his brother as a dynamic pair and occasionally in states such as New York, Missouri, Virginia. Justin is also very proud to be a part of the Soultone Family. BEST CYMBALS EVER!
