Jorge Alexis Vargas Gomez is a Percussionist/ Composer/ Educator from Coamo Puerto Rico, who just finished studying his Mayor in Music at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ponce (PUCPR). His love for music started around the age of twelve, where he started studying the guitar at the Escuela Libre de Música Jose Ignacio Quinton and two years later, he switched to percussion, where he fell in love with the drums and took classes with Professor Ivan Esparra. He then started his college education, with Professor Ortiz at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ponce (PUCPR). On October 2013, he auditioned for the Marching Band of the PUCPR, under the direction of Peter Vega, where he got to play the snare drum. Two years later he was promoted to section leader and he also became the official drummer for the PUCPR concert band and performed in various tours around Puerto Rico. He then started taking classes with Peter Vega on topics such as, jazz drumming and Latin drumming. Under his direction, Jorge also learned to play the congas, timbales, bongo, marching quad toms, guiro, tips on harmonization, composition and band direction where he directed songs like “Lo Que Yo Quiero Ser” by Rafi Escudero, “Las Campanas De La Catedral”, and many more. He recorded the drums for the song “Mi Realidad” by Yashira & Yadiel in the studio of Marcos Sanchez (Pianist of Kany Garcia) located in Santa Isabel, P.R. Shortly after that, his band offered a concert at Teatro La Perla in Ponce. He also played various shows in different cities with bassist Prof. Irvin Cancel (Ex- professor at Berklee). Jorge now plans to do a master’s degree in musical education in the Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico located in the city of San German.
