Jonathan Lemaine

A Brooklyn born kid raised in a Haitian family, music has always been a part of his life.

“My mother told me that while I was in her womb, I would kick every time music was being played.”

His father, Jacques Lemaine, is a well know bass player within the Haitian community in New York City, and His mother, Margalie, is a singer. At the age two, He has found an interest in playing the drums.

“I would lay my nursery rhyme books on my bed, and play on them with wooden spoons. Every Sunday, I would go to church and sit right next to the drum set and mimic the drummer’s playing”.

At the age of six, He played his first song in church, and that’s when his parents saw that he had a gift sent from God. At the age of nine, He moved to New Jersey and there he has pursued his playing even more. At the age of 11, he played in his very first band, Kades Barnea, which was a Gospel Haitian band playing a genre called Konpa. In 1999, he Attended Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ where He played for the MLKA Gospel Choir for three years, which was there he discovered a whole new perspective of Gospel Music. His love for Gospel music has grown since then. He is now a full time drummer at Christ Church; a multi-cultural, Interdenominational church located in Montclair, NJ. He currently plays for an unsigned gospel group, Seth Nix and Genuine Praise. He has played on four albums, and is currently working on three. He is the Musical Director for the Haitian Church of God of East Orange/Newark Youth Choir in Newark, NJ. He has played on the same stage as Tye Tribbett, Jason Upton, Shea Norman, Judacamp, and has played with Eric Robertson, Joanne Rosario, Freddy Rodriquez, BJ Putnam, Rita Springer, Alvin Slaughter and Stephen Hurd. Additionally, he has played for local artists such as Bryant Barnett, Troy Bell and J-Factor, and haitian Artists such as Hughes Sagnon, Levelt Datilus, Golden Light and many others.

“In whatever I do, I make sure that GOD gets all the glory; for HE is the one that gave me this gift.”
