Jonathan Foster

Calvin Rainwater, Cross In The Desert United Methodist Church

Jonathan Foster was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and began his love of music and playing drums when he was 2 years old banging on his mom's pots and pans.
Coming from a long line of musicians as my great grandmother played piano in movie theatres and taught piano and my Great Uncle played almost every wind/brass instrument.

I began playing drums in Elementary band when I was 10 years old and continued all the way through sophomore year of high school. Though air drumming and playing on couch cushions and soft fabric chairs was a common instrument growing up. I received my first drum set when I was 13 years old and I would practice day and night inside of a garage. I unfortunately lost my first drum set, but then was gifted with my Hunter Green Mapex V-Series which I still have to this day. Then in 2019 I completely updated my drumkit to a Mapex Armory Series.

I joined my first band when I was 15 years old with a couple of guys from church who wanted to play Blink-182 music. This didn't last very long. Then at age 17 years old when I went and played for my church’s youth group and then up to main worship all with-in a year of playing. This gig would last 3.5 years. In 2006 I discovered a Sunday night jam session. It was this experience for the next 8 years I would really understand myself not only as a drummer but someone who learn various types of music. This opportunity lead to some subbing work with a local band Johnny Anonymous.

In 2012, I answered a craigslist ad for another church worship band in NE Phoenix. I’m still currently active with this church and what this church has taught me I can take the arraignment and make it my own.

In 2016 my drumming career took a positive direction when I was hired to become the drummer in my current band Calvin Rainwater. This was the first time I would experience a plethora of people who really love Calvin’s music and it showed when we packed a bar for a CD release of Sinners & Saints in 2017, and then again when we were showcased in the Big Sting music festival in Prescott Arizona.

In 2020 my band just released a song entitled Her Leaving On The Way.
