Derrin Brown, born and raised in Annapolis, MD ascends from a well-known musical family. He began playing the drums at the age of ten and by the age twelve was playing with local churches and bands. By the time he was sixteen, Derrin was performing at various clubs in the DMV area with a well-known local band, The Clones of Funk, opening for legendary recording artists Fishbone, “The Funk Master” himself George Clinton and "The Godfather of Go-Go" Chuck Brown.
Derrin's love and passion for his craft as well as his skills grew rapidly allowing him to play for a live recording that featured local and national artists in addition to playing with Smooth Jazz recording artists such as Marcus Johnson, Marcus Mitchell and Phillip "Doc" Martin. He has also shared the stage with some of the top Gospel artists such as Vicki Winans, Beverly Crawford, Maurette Brown-Clarke, Kim Burrell and Lorraine Stancil. Recently he recorded on the Gambles Bride Album, where he was featured on the songs “State of Emergency” and “Testing of Times”.
Derrin has played at many renowned locations such as the world famous Blues Alley, The Governors White Mansion, B.B. King’s House of Blues and the Los Angeles Convention Center. He also had the honor of playing at the 44th Presidential Inaugural Ball for President Barack Obama.
Over the years Derrin has created a very notable style of drumming which many attribute to strong solid pocket playing with tasteful fills. With that being said, he has become one of the most sought after drummers in the DMV area. Currently, Derrin is the drummer for a variety of different bands to include Smooth Jazz Saxophonist Isaac Parham, Bassist Kevin Walker and the Jazz Chronicles, Jasmine Williams & Co., and The VanDykes.
