Damar Douglas

Damar Douglas a native of Los Angeles, California born and raised by his lovely parents Elder Deon and Prophetess Fannette Douglas, born August 23, 1991. He developed the love for drums at a very young age. At the age of 2, he received his first drum set and he hasn’t stopped playing since. Damar grew up watching his cousin play drums in church. His cousin would give him sticks, and Damar would play air drums. By the time Damar was 7 years old, his cousin left the church giving him a little more playing time. No matter what church Damar went to, he always sat close to the drums constantly watching drummers. Because he was very young and had nobody to teach him how to play, he wasn’t very good. So he started second guessing about playing drums, till his Grandmother encouraged him to keep at it.

Later while growing up, his church started fellowshipping with other churches. Damar was so amazed at their drummers, because they were doing things Damar had never seen before. Our church merged with one of our sister churches for a short period of time in which cut Damar’s playing time, but because Damar enjoyed watching these drummers play, he didn’t really care at that point. He watched them so much, he started playing like them. By the time Damar was 12, the other church moved into their own facility and Damar became the main drummer for his church which is now Gospel Faith Clinic Word Church. While Damar was a nervous quiet drummer scared to do a drum roll because he didn’t want to mess up, people constantly encouraged him to play louder, but the louder he played, the more he would mess up. He focused on not messing up so much, till he couldn’t develop his own style.

He then set a goal for himself; his goal was to become a better drummer each year. Once this goal was set in motion, Damar immediately began to get better and better. He was so amazed at his progress that he no longer worried about messing up. He started becoming very creative, having so much fun playing drums but most importantly, he always remembered to put God first. Now that Damar has totally matured in a real big way, he has gotten many offers to play for several churches, concerts, indoor and outdoor events, etc.; he also was offered to fly to Rhode Island, New York to play with a professional band. He has had incredible opportunities to share the stage with great Choirs, Praise & Worship Teams, and Recording Artists such as, Dr. Dorinda Clark-Cole, Jesse Campbell, Rap Artist Ezekiel etc. He has even had offers to play at well known churches one in particular City of Refuge, Bishop Noel Jones residing Pastor. Damar plans to take his drum skills and knowledge to another level as he is planning to attend the Musicians Institute to increase his Knowledge, skills and abilities.
