Bryan Morris

Bryan Morris

When you hear the phrase “it’s in his blood”, that's just what they mean when the name Bryan Morris is bandied about in the music industry. Bryan began playing the drums when he was 3 years-old. And at the age of 5, he started performing with the Men of Distinction. A band that was directed and managed by his father, the late Joseph A. Morris.

Bryan performed with John “Jabo” Starks, former drummer of the James Brown band. Jabo was a member of the Men of Distinction when he began performing. Beginning in 1982, Bryan performed with the with an array of distinguished musicians, Bobby Humphries, Artique Duke Payne–Bagpipes, E.B. Coleman Jazz Orchestra, and jazz trumpet maestro, Maynard Ferguson. In 1984, Bryan was hired as the drummer for the Surgeon General Band (Top 40), and remained with the group until it disbanded in 1987.

Bryan’s performance career continued with: The Michael Foster Project (jazz band) and Doja Composure; Dojo Composure featured rapper Lavell Crump a.k.a. David Banner; produced tracks for Doja Composure; performed with jazz trumpeter Eric Baskins; performed with jazz clarinetists Alvin Batiste; and toured with American Bluesman Kenny Neal for many years.

Currently, Bryan is touring and recording with Flaminco and smooth jazz guitarist Roman Street since 2014. During which time Roman Street _________ a song about Bryan’s dad, titled, “Mr. Morris”. The song rose to number 12 on the Billboard Jazz chart. And Bryan formed his own band, The Truth, featuring Cat Rhodes. The band is working on their second album, which is soon to be released.
