Anjilla Piazza

Born and raised in Southern California, 21-year-old Anjilla Piazza doesn’t fit the stereotypes or look of the average drummer. She started out as a classical violinist at the age of 8. By 11, Anjilla got a pair of drumsticks and started beating on cardboard boxes and other “fake drums”. At 12, Anjilla got her first drum kit and a couple months later, she got her first gig. Since then, Anjilla has never looked back. Although she plays predominantly in the worlds of rock, and experimental music, she has played in bands of all different styles including: reggae, pop, punk, grunge, latin, folk, and hip-hop. At her young age, Anjilla has had many great honors, including being a member of the California All-State band as a classical percussionist and sharing the same stage as Roy Haynes, Vinny Golia, and Kris Tiner as a drummer.

Anjilla currently attends the California Institute of the Arts where she is a Multi-Focus Percussion major and will be graduating in May of 2011.

“Almost every type of drumming I see influences me, from African tribes to 3 year old drum kit prodigies. I try to learn something from every drummer I hear, but I consider my greatest influences to be Jimmy Cobb, Bud Gaugh, Mitch Mitchell, Tony Williams, Cindy Blackman, Elvin Jones and Dave Grohl.”

“Soultone Cymbals have really surprised me. They have the versatility and warmth that I have been looking for since day one. Soultone cares about their artists and the quality of their products is amazing. I am proud to play on and endorse Soultone Cymbals!”
