In all great men there lies a seed of greatness that takes time, care, and effort to nurture.  With those ingredients, coupled with a sincere, burning desire to make a difference through careful application of their innate talents, these masters have left their indelible mark of greatness on the landscape of mankind.  History is rich because of their contribution and we have all “raised the bar” because of the sacrifices they have made and the examples they set!

Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Tony Williams, Jo Jones, Mel Lewis, and Johnny Carson all had it!

Vinnie Colauita, Dave Weckl, Steve Smith, Steve Gadd, Marvin “Smitty” Smith, Jeff “Tain” Watts, John Riley, Peter Erskine, Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, and Steve Jordan, all have it!

Greatness is like beauty: it is in the eye of the beholder.  If you have sincere “ego-less” self-belief, coupled with enough “beholders” saying: “you’re great:” then you probably have “it!”

 What is “it?”

“It” is that indescribable, quality that distinguishes you from the rest of the pack.  “It” is the discriminating quality you possess that highlights your incredible strengths and superb talents, while at the same time, exposing the weakness, ineptitude, and mediocrity of those you compete against. “It” is the secret weapon that allows you to score the game winning goal, rally the troops to victory against all odds, and allows you your rightful place on the medal podium or in the “Hall of Fame!”

Our profession has grown to the point where “it” is a target moving at warp speed.  Blink: and you lose sight of it.  Sneeze: and the other guy may catch “it” while you are still wiping your nose.  Forget to breath: and the other guy will get “it” and “blow you away” in the process!

It is a very competitive market out there.  People say: “music is not a competition.”  That’s kind of like the person that says: “I don’t want to be rich; I just want to be comfortable!”   Those people that say that would probably lie about other things too!  The fact is: given the choice; we would all want to have the very best gig possible and become rich as a result of doing the thing we love the most…. Ok, well second most!  J

Cymbals and Drums are progressing to the point where, if you show up on a gig with anything less than “custom made;” “state of the art;” or “the very best money can buy;” you might as well stay home!  Musicians are discriminating!  The artists you play for are discriminating!  The producers and engineers you play for are discriminating! The audience you play for is discriminating!  If you are truly honest with yourself, money not being an issue in terms of being able to afford only the very best: you too would be highly discriminating also!

“It” is a quality and function of excellence, perseverance, laser like focus and dedication to a greater cause or an ideal outcome, and “It” is the autograph of perfection that every true genius of a craftsman signs his work with!

That autograph of excellence can be found on every Soultone Cymbal.  The “old-school” Turkish craftsman that autograph each cymbal that leaves the factory, are amongst a rare and dying breed of cymbalsmiths that constitute the legendary stories of bygone eras!

We have all had the experience of walking into cymbal vault after cymbal vault, checking out cymbals; taking them home to try; taking them to the gig to play, and then returning them to the store.  Where have all the great cymbalsmiths gone?  Where have all the great cymbals gone?  What happened to the discriminating quality control that lead to greatness for a lot of the other cymbal companies?

Soultone Cymbals are now considered the “Weapon of Mass Delight” by the top studio, concert, and TV based drummers of our time.  Why?  Because each cymbal is “sound-tested for excellence,” by not one, but three legendary cymbalsmiths!  The “icing on the cake,” effectively rendering your Soultone Cymbals as “secret weapons,” comes by way of the fact each cymbal must be “signed off on” by these three masters, before they allow the cymbal to leave their line of sight!

The biggest “secret” that is “not so secret” lies in the fact that the majority of name artists, endorsed by other reputable manufacturers, are quietly amassing a storage vault full of Soultone Cymbals, enabling them to have a competitive advantage in any playing situation!

What is your secret?  Do you have “It?” Do you walk around with “Weapons of Mass Delight” in your cymbal bag?  Imagine being on an important recording date.  You reach into your cymbal bag for the perfect cymbal… everyone goes:  AHHHHH!!! That’s “It!”
